The Indian equity market experienced a sharp decline on Friday, April 4, 2025, following US President Donald Trump's announcement of reciprocal tariffs on 60 countries, including India. The Nifty fell 346 points to close at 22,904, while the Sensex dropped 1,000 points1. This sell-off erased ₹11 lakh crore in market capitalization of BSE-listed companies.

The decline was broad-based, with metal, pharma, oil & gas, realty, and IT sectors being the most affected1. The Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices also saw significant losses1. Foreign and domestic institutional investors were net sellers in the cash market.

Looking ahead, the market will focus on the RBI's monetary policy announcement on April 9 and Q4FY25 earnings starting with TCS on April 101. Analysts suggest that if the Nifty falls below 22,800, it could potentially slide to around 22,350 in the near term1. The Nifty Bank index, which outperformed other sectors, has support in the 50,500-50,600 range.

Key stocks to watch on Monday include Tata Motors, ITC, Yes Bank, Federal Bank, TVS Motor, AstraZeneca Pharma, Puravankara, and Godrej Properties, due to various corporate developments and market reactions.
